Demolition in the City of Peoria needs a permit from the building official through Community Development’s Building Safety division at 419 Fulton Street, Room 203, 309-494-8600. The City’s published fee schedule lists all demolitions at $50 (confirm the current amount when you apply), the code asks for a $20,000 bond on buildings up to three storeys (a homeowner taking down a house or garage with hand tools is exempt), an insurance certificate, a party-wall certificate where one applies, and a 30-day public notice period before the permit issues, with the current list posted on the City’s site. Work started without a permit is charged three times the fee, there is no demolition between 10 pm and 6 am within 500 feet of a residential district, and in a local historic district or landmark the exterior demolition needs a certificate of appropriateness first.

Illinois EPA applies the federal asbestos rules: a notification and a $150 fee at least ten working days before a regulated demolition or renovation, with licensing through the Illinois Department of Public Health.
