Dumpster Rental in Peoria, IL

On a private driveway or lot you need no Public Works permit; the City says so on its own page. If the container has to sit on a City street or alley, Peoria requires a Dumpster or Storage Container permit from the Public Works Permits Division (3505 N Dries Lane, 309-494-8800, PWpermits@peoriagov.org), and under City Code Sec. 26-29(d)(2) the hauler placing the container applies for it, not the property owner. It costs $20 for each 30 days, takes about 48 hours to process, and comes with placement rules: 50 feet clear of an intersection or alley, 10 feet clear of a hydrant, no blocking the traffic lane, barricades with flashing lights at each end, reflective strips on the sides, boards under the container, and the applicant clears snow and debris around it. A metered space also needs a meter bag from Heartland Parking (309-674-1850). The City licenses the haulers who do this ($25 a year with a $10,000 bond), the general penalty is $75 to $500 per offence with each day a separate offence, and a second offence of working without a permit adds a $1,000 surcharge. One more rule that catches people: Sec. 13-37(d) limits a dumpster on a residential property to two weeks unless the owner asks Community Development (309-494-8600) in writing for an extension.
